Teeth Grinding: The Silent Smile Saboteur

Teeth Grinding: The Silent Smile Saboteur

You know that sound nails make on a chalkboard? Now imagine that, but it’s your teeth doing the damage. Not the soundtrack you want while you sleep. Teeth grinding (a.k.a. bruxism) might be quiet, but the damage is loud and clear. From worn enamel to jaw pain and even...

6 Signs It’s Time to See an Orthodontist

6 Signs It’s Time to See an Orthodontist

Fixing that little gap between your teeth or an overbite isn’t just about looks; it helps your smile work smarter, not harder, and sometimes your speech, too. Teeth don’t just magically straighten themselves. If anything, those “quirks” tend to invite more chaos over...

Frequently asked questions

Will Invisalign affect my speech?

Most patients will initially find that Invisalign aligners can cause a tiny lisp when first speaking. But this is usually only temporary and will correct itself within a few days as you become accustomed to routinely wearing the aligners. Then you can get back to talking as normal!

Do I still need to visit my dentist during treatment?

Yes, visiting your dentist is as important as ever. Your orthodontist and dentist are working together to create your beautiful, healthy smile. It’s important that you still receive professional dental cleanings every 6 months, or as often as your dentist recommends.

Maintaining good oral health throughout your braces treatment is essential for achieving the best results from your orthodontic treatment, and your dentist plays a key role in that.

What about braces for adults?

Braces can be a good option too, especially if it will be difficult to straighten your teeth or fix your bite. Mint Orthodontics is the largest provider of LightForce braces in the United States. These high-tech braces for adults are clear braces that are 3D printed for your teeth making treatment more inconspicuous and more comfortable than ever before. Lightforce braces also enable you to have fewer appointments and are one of the quickest ways to straighten teeth.

Can I still play sports or musical instruments with braces?

Absolutely! To protect your teeth and braces during sports, wear a mouthguard. As for musical instruments, there might be a short adjustment period, but you’ll be back to playing your favorite tunes in no time.

How do I care for my aligners?

With Invisalign, you can remove the trays to eat, brush, and floss without restriction, allowing you to move through your daily and oral hygiene routine seamlessly.

However, cleaning your Invisalign trays after removing them is an extra step that you will want to take. Each time you take them off, use your toothbrush to gently scrub them, making sure you’re rinsing them in lukewarm water. Also, brush and floss your teeth before putting your aligners back on to ensure you’re not trapping particles between your teeth and the aligners.

Additionally, when not wearing your aligners, be sure to store them in the case we give you at the start of treatment.
